LIFE ViVaCCAdapt: First project results published

This spring, as part of the LIFE ViVaCCAdapt project (LIFE15 CCA/SI/000070), a Regional Analysis to Support the Adaptation of Agriculture to Climate Change in the Vipava Valley was prepared, which provides an assessment of the vulnerability of agriculture to climate change in the Vipava Valley.

International workshop on the active involvement of the public in integrated water management – 27 September 2017

For the coordinated planning of water use and water resources, it is crucial that, in addition to cross-sectoral cooperation, the general public and stakeholders are also more actively involved. Although their interests and rights are adequately safeguarded by the legal framework and the public administration system, in practice it is evident that they are not sufficiently involved in decision-making processes.
The workshop, which will take place on 27 September 2017 at the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre, is organised as part of the SPARE project’s activities – Strategic Planning and Coordination for the Conservation and Restoration of Alpine Riverine Ecosystems (SPARE – Strategic Planning for Alpine Riverine Ecosystems – Integrating protection and development). The Water Institute of the Republic of Slovenia is participating in the SPARE project as a project partner and organiser of this workshop.

Invitation to the ‘Clean Coast’ clean-up campaign

September is the time for CLEAN COAST, and we are once again delighted to invite you to the clean-up campaign, which will take place for the eighth time across Slovenia’s coastal municipalities on Saturday 23 September 2017.
This year, too, it will form part of the world’s largest voluntary clean-up campaign for coasts, seas and lakes – the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC), organised by the Water Institute of the Republic of Slovenia and the TRI-NITI Institute. In addition, this year we have joined the MEDITERRANEAN COASTAL WEEK, with the central theme ‘Living with the Sea’, which will take place from 20 to 23 September 2017 along the Slovenian coast.

Rivers are connecting – but what about us? – SPARE Project Newsletter No. 3

This issue of the SPARE project newsletter presents the results of a survey in which we sought the views of residents, associations, businesses and other stakeholders on the management and protection of the Soča river catchment area. A similar survey was also carried out in other pilot areas of the project partners, and by comparing the results we will gain a better understanding of the challenges involved in managing the Soča river basin. The results will also contribute to the planning of the next steps in the SPARE project, in which participants will play an active role in shaping decisions, measures and plans for the management of the Soča river basin.

The “Living with the Sea” project, named the best environmental project of 2017, was awarded a prize at Internautica

Ljubljana, 9 May 2017 – The “Living with the Sea” project was presented this year at the 22nd International Boat Show – Internautica, where, thanks to its sustainability-focused content relating to the preservation of a healthy marine ecosystem and coastline, it was named the best environmental project of 2017, as selected by the international jury of the “Adriatic Boat of the Year Award”. The “Living with the Sea” project, initiated by the Ministry of Infrastructure – the Slovenian Maritime Administration – and the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning (MOP), has brought together all the key institutions and experts in the field of nature conservation.

BeWater: Successful River Basin Adaptation Conference

River Basin Adaptation Conference was held on between 7th and 8th March 2017 placed in Nova Gorica. This was the final conference of the project BeWater with full title “Making society an active participant in water adaptation to global change.”

Symposium – Plastic: rubbish or treasure? Monday, 13 March 2017, 8.30 am – 4.30 pm at the Museum of Architecture and Design
