Ljubljana, 9 May 2017 – The “Living with the Sea” project was presented this year at the 22nd International Boat Show – Internautica, where, thanks to its sustainability-focused content relating to the preservation of a healthy marine ecosystem and coastline, it was named the best environmental project of 2017, as selected by the international jury of the “Adriatic Boat of the Year Award”. The “Living with the Sea” project, initiated by the Ministry of Infrastructure – the Slovenian Maritime Administration – and the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning (MOP), has brought together all the key institutions and experts in the field of nature conservation.
The award was accepted on behalf of the Slovenian Maritime Administration and the MOP by Barbara Breznik from the MOP. In addition to the Slovenian Maritime Administration and the MOP, the following organisations also participated in the implementation of the project: the Slovenian Environment Agency, the Slovenian Water Directorate, the Slovenian Civil Protection and Rescue Administration, the Slovenian Institute for Nature Conservation, the Strunjan Landscape Park, the Slovenian Water Institute, the National Institute of Biology – Piran Marine Biology Station, Morigenos – the Slovenian Society for the Observation and Research of Marine Mammals, and DOVES – the Society for Environmental Education in Europe in Slovenia. The aim of the project is to raise awareness amongst the general public of the importance of the sea and the coastline, the benefits they offer, the pressures we are placing on them, and sustainable ways of using and behaving at sea and on the coast.
