Successful end of the project SPARE (Strategic Planning for Alpine Riverine Ecosystems)
From 2016 to 2018, nine project partners from six different Alpine countries had been working together to improve river management and better integrate and balance various human activities with ecosystem conservation. A lot of methods and practices have been analysed, further developed and applied as “adapted models” in SPARE’s five pilot areas: Dora Baltea in Italy, Drôme in France, Inn-Engadine in Switzerland, Soča in Slovenia and Steyr in Austria. The mutual exchange of data, knowledge and experiences in the pilot areas as well as the monitoring and evaluation of these processes feed into common strategies and guidelines.

Launch of the ‘Green Infrastructure: Conservation and Improvement of the Status of Endangered Species and Habitat Types along Rivers’ project – GREVISLIN – Interreg ITALY-SLOVENIA
The lead partner for the GREVISLIN project – Interreg ITALY-SLOVENIA, the Regional Development Agency of Northern Primorska, organised a kick-off meeting to launch the project’s activities.
The kick-off meeting took place on 30 November 2018 at Villa Vipolže in Brda. As part of the agenda for the kick-off meeting, all partner and associated partner institutions on the Slovenian and Italian sides were introduced, whilst the work package leaders presented the content, the timeframe and budget, and the role of each partner within their respective work packages.
Most of the activities within the work packages will commence on 1 January 2019.
Successful workshop on ‘Living with Water, the Coast and the Sea’
In collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning, the Slovenian Water Agency and the Slovenian Water Institute, we organised a workshop entitled “Living with Water, the Coast and the Sea” on 9 November 2018. The workshop topics included the integration of the implementation of the legal framework, strategic and programme documents in the field of water management, the results of technical studies and projects, and the implementation of green infrastructure pilot projects within the framework of cross-border cooperation and, more broadly, cooperation within EU macro-regions. The event was attended by representatives of various institutions and professional fields, united by their knowledge and concern for water.
Invitation to the workshop ‘Living with Water, the Coast and the Sea’
In collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning, MOP – the Water Directorate of the Republic of Slovenia and the Water Institute, a specialist workshop will be organised as part of the current exhibition at the Museum of Architecture and Design – Living with Water – an event forming part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018.
The workshop will take place on Friday, 9 November 2018, starting at 10.00 am at Fužine Castle, Pot na Fužine 2, Ljubljana.

A successful presentation at the WATER DAYS 2018 symposium – ‘UNDERSTANDING THE IMPACTS AND ADOPTING SOLUTIONS CAN LEAD TO BETTER WATER QUALITY’
On 18 October 2018, Associate Professor Dr Gorazd Urbanič gave a lecture on the importance of understanding the impacts of human activities on aquatic ecosystems and finding solutions for sustainable water management. In his lecture, he gave several examples of ‘nature’s’ best practices, and concluded by saying: ‘The solutions lie in nature’.
