On Monday, 15 September 2025, a workshop entitled: ‘Climate Resilience: From Source to Sea’, organised as part of Mediterranean Coast Week and Macro-regional Strategies. The event was attended by representatives of the Water Research Institute of the Republic of Slovenia, who actively contributed with two expert presentations.
The aim of the workshop was to harmonise the various approaches to sampling micro-waste in rivers, with a view to ensuring consistency and comparability of results amongst the project partners. Such methodological harmonisation and the exchange of experiences are crucial for reliable project results across all pilot sites.
Staff at the Slovenian Water Institute are co-authors of an article based on data collected through citizen science as part of the Plastic Pirates project.
On Radio Maribor, the programme *Malo naokrog* featured a discussion on how we can work together to strengthen the resilience of our communities to climate change. The programme featured experts in the field of water, including our director at IzVRS, Neža Kodre, MA.
On Friday, 7 June 2025, we at the Water Institute of the Republic of Slovenia (IzVRS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning, opened the exhibition ‘Marine Litter in Slovenian Waters’, which is on display in the ministry’s lobby. The opening took place to coincide with World Oceans Day, which the international community marks every year on 8 June with the aim of highlighting the importance of the oceans for life on Earth and promoting responsible stewardship of the marine environment.
Ljubljana, 3 June 2025 – The Director of the Water Institute of the Republic of Slovenia, Neža Kodre, MA, addressed participants at the 1st Forum for Women Entrepreneurs as part of the preparations for the Master Plan for Sustainable Tourism Development in the Sava River Basin. The event is being organised by the International Sava River Basin Commission (ISRBC) and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning of the Republic of Slovenia.
As part of the Interreg Aquatic Plastic project, the Water Institute of the Republic of Slovenia organised a specialist workshop on 16 April 2025, to coincide with World Earth Day, entitled ‘Working Together for Waste-Free Rivers – From Problem to Solution’, which took place in Ljubljana.
To mark World Water Day – which is observed on 22 March – the Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning (MNVP) organised an event at which experts and specialists exchanged views on the hydrological challenges arising from climate change and human activity.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning, in collaboration with the Water Institute of the Republic of Slovenia, will mark World Water Day on Thursday 20 March with an event at the main post office in Ljubljana.
