Meeting of the AQPLA project partners in Vienna

In the second half of June 2024, a two-day meeting of the project partners of the Aquatic Plastic (AQPLA) project took place in Vienna, hosted by BOKU (University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences). The event brought together representatives of the participating organisations to review the activities carried out, assess the project’s progress and develop strategies to reduce waste pollution in the Danube river basin. In parallel, workshops were held to develop methodologies for sampling micro-litter in rivers, river sediments and fish.

At the Water Institute of the Republic of Slovenia (IzVRS), we recognise the importance of water and have been working towards its sustainable management for over 50 years through research, development and consultancy in the field of water management.

COP23 is taking place in Portorož

The 23rd meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention – the Mediterranean Conference (COP 23) – is taking place this week in Portorož, with the Slovenian Water Institute also taking part.

The Barcelona Convention – COP23

From 4 to 8 December 2023, Slovenia will host the 23rd Conference of the Parties to the Barcelona Convention (COP23) in Portorož. On this occasion, it will assume the two-year presidency of the Convention for the period 2024–2025.

Clean Coast 2023 – results

This year, 109 kg of rubbish was collected, comprising 69.4 kg of mixed waste, 23.8 kg of packaging and plastic waste, 12.4 kg of glass and 3.4 kg of cigarette ends. In total, 15,329 items of litter were removed from the beach during the two-hour clean-up.

22 March, World Water Day, serves as a reminder of the exceptional importance of water. It is an opportunity to raise awareness of the challenges we face in ensuring access to clean water, and of the crucial role that sustainable water management plays in achieving this goal.
