Slovenia will host the 23rd Conference of the Parties to the Barcelona Convention (COP23)
From 4 to 8 December 2023, Slovenia will host the 23rd Conference of the Parties to the Barcelona Convention (COP23) in Portorož. On this occasion, it will assume the two-year presidency of the Convention for the period 2024–2025.
The presidency’s slogan, ‘Green Transition in the Mediterranean: From Decisions to Action’, emphasises the shift towards implementing the decisions taken to achieve sustainable development in the Mediterranean and to put the green transition into practice. As a contracting party, Slovenia is committed to promoting an ecosystem-based approach to development planning by reinforcing the importance of blue and green corridors in spatial planning and management to conserve coastal and marine biodiversityand ecosystem services.
The main tasks of the Slovenian Presidency will relate to marine protected areas, integrated coastal zone management and maritime spatial planning, updates to contingency plans for emergencies, and increasing resilience to climate change.
IzVRS is participating in the event by providing substantive support to the organisers.
