Handbook for Recognising and Planning Green Infrastructure
At IzVRS, in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning and external partners, we have prepared a Handbook for Recognising and Planning Green Infrastructure (hereinafter referred to as GI). The handbook is the result of a process through which we have harmonised the views and approaches of various sectors in the field of identifying and planning GI, particularly those responsible for issuing opinions, with a view to harmonising and simplifying the procedures for issuing consents/opinions, the drafters of spatial strategies and plans, the drafters of strategic and programme documents, as well as the drafters of municipal and regional strategies, plans and programmes for priority areas and projects. The concept of green infrastructure represents a framework for integrating the various objectives and activities of individual sectors, such as agriculture/forestry and tourism, and not least transport, energy, education and others. The main aim of the handbook is to improve the integration of ecological systems and natural green and water areas – such as forests, inland waters and the sea – into planning processes. Through this handbook, we also wish to highlight the need to establish the management of green infrastructure and natural resources, which is one of the prerequisites for the successful cross-sectoral implementation of activities aimed at preserving a healthy and high-quality environment.

The handbook serves as a resource for the Slovenian Presidency of the European Union in the areas of green infrastructure, sustainable development and the Green Deal.
