On Saturday 17 September 2022, the thirteenth ‘Clean Coast’ clean-up campaign took place along the Slovenian coast, despite the poor weather.

After the clean-up campaign, we continued our meeting indoors at HEKI – a laboratory based on the concept of social science. We examined microplastics under a microscope. The samples were presented by Tine Bizjak from the Slovenian Water Institute. Mateja Grego, PhD in Biology and a researcher at the Piran Marine Biology Station of the National Institute of Biology, demonstrated how microplastics are sampled in aquatic environments and sediments. The campaign is co-funded by the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning.
