Through a series of workshops in the Vipava river basin, representatives of the Slovenian Water Institute are involving the interested public in the preparation of a water management strategy for the basin, with a view to adapting to climate change. At the first workshop (Ajdovščina, June 2014), stakeholders identified the challenges, needs and constraints relating to water management and water use in the Vipava river basin, as well as potential solutions in the form of various water management options. At the second workshop (Ajdovščina, May 2015), stakeholders refined and evaluated the selected water management options.
On Monday 12 October 2015, the third workshop of the BeWater project took place at the premises of the Ajdovščina Regional Chamber of Crafts and Entrepreneurship. The workshop was attended by 16 stakeholders from various sectors at regional and local level – including experts, policy-makers and implementers.
The third BeWater workshop was designed to review selected water management options based on the participants’ expertise and experience. Participants discussed their experiences with similar water management options and the potential (political, social and economic) barriers that may arise during their implementation. They put forward suggestions for improving how the options are implemented and for combining certain options with one another.
The water management options discussed form an integral part of the Vipava river basin adaptation plan, which will be drawn up as part of the ongoing BeWater project.
