In early June 2026, the 6th meeting of the Working Group for the Implementation and Monitoring of the Implementation of Slovenia’s Maritime Spatial Plan took place in Izola, organised by the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning. The meeting featured presentations on current activities and technical documentation relating to the management of Slovenia’s maritime and coastal areas, including:
- – planned activities for flood protection,
- – a report on the implementation of corrective measures in the management of interventions in the event of sudden pollution of the Adriatic Sea,
- – activities relating to the demarcation of the coastline,
- – the technical basis for a new marine protected area.
IzVRS presented the results of the project ‘Conducting technical analyses to select potential sites for the temporary storage of waste that would be generated in the event of a major maritime accident’. The analyses provide an important technical basis for an effective response in the event of major environmental accidents at sea, as they identify potential locations for the temporary collection and treatment of waste generated during pollution clean-up operations.
The project contributes to improving the preparedness of the competent authorities, reducing environmental risks and strengthening the coordinated management of Slovenia’s maritime space. Cooperation between state authorities, local communities, specialist institutions and other stakeholders remains crucial for sustainable planning and the effective protection of Slovenia’s seas and coastal areas.
