On Friday, 6 March 2026 at 10.00, a specialist awareness-raising event entitled ‘For Clean Waters: Ditch the habit, not the waste, dedicated to reducing waste in rivers and the responsible management of the aquatic environment.
The event is organised by IzVRS in collaboration with the France Bevk Primary School in Tolmin, Tolmin Municipality and the Tolmin Fishing Association.
The focus will be on measures to reduce waste in rivers and a presentation of the international TETHYS4ADRION project, which aims to reduce the amount of waste carried by river systems into the Adriatic and Ionian Seas.
Slovenia will be the first of the seven participating countries to release two GPS trackers to monitor the path of waste along the River Soča towards the sea. The trackers’ route can be followed on the IzVRS website.
An important part of the event is the involvement of young people. Pupils in Years 3–5 at the France Bevk Primary School in Tolmin created designs for reducing river waste as part of an art competition. The best entries will be displayed at an exhibition, and selected messages will be printed on stickers to accompany the GPS trackers on their journey to the sea.
