In Maribor, at the premises of Dravske elektrarne Maribor, the 3rd workshop as part of the HyMoCARES project, entitled ‘Introduction of the concept of ecosystem services as a support for decision-making’, took place on 15 10 October 2019, the third workshop within the HyMoCARES project took place, entitled ‘Introduction of the concept of ecosystem services as a support for decision-making at cross-sectoral and strategic levels’

As part of the transnational Interreg Alpine Space programme, the HyMoCARES project (HydroMorphological assessment and management at basin scale for the Conservation of Alpine Rivers and related Ecosystem Services) was launched in 2017.

One of the project’s main objectives is to identify, in accordance with regulations and strategic guidelines on water management and nature conservation, a set of measures to improve the hydromorphological status of watercourses. The section of the Drava River from the weir at Melje to Lake Ptuj has been selected as the pilot area.

With the aim of presenting the project’s results and key findings, members of the IzVRS project team organised a workshop in Maribor on 15 October 2019. The workshop was attended by 13 participants (experts) from various public and private sectors (ZRSVN, ZZRS, KGZ Ptuj, Dem, VGB Maribor, etc.). We began by presenting the project’s results and key findings, as well as the applicability of the ecosystem services concept as a tool to support decision-making at cross-sectoral and strategic levels.

Following the presentations, a discussion took place on specific measures, the integration of ecosystem services into strategic documents, and proposals for improving and raising awareness of ecosystem services amongst the wider public.
