In the first half of 2019, a number of activities took place as part of the LIFE ViVaCCAdapt project:
On 7 March 2019, the ROD Ajdovščina Regional Development Agency, in collaboration with the companies Hidrotehnik d.d. and BO-MO d.o.o., as well as the University of Ljubljana’s Faculty of Biotechnology, the Slovenian Water Institute and the Municipality of Ajdovščina, organised a presentation event for the LIFE ViVaCCAdapt project under the theme ‘Adapting agriculture to climate change in the Vipava Valley’. The event showcased the results achieved at the halfway point of the project. Following the event, the 5th meeting of the project partners took place.
In March 2019, Laura Giappichelli, a LIFE adviser from Brussels, visited the Vipava Valley to review the progress of the project’s activities. Following a presentation on the project’s key issues, we also carried out a field visit to inspect the installation of green windbreaks and the setting up and installation of probes and tensiometers.
On 14 May 2019, the third workshop on technically sound irrigation was held, at which farmers participating in the project were given access to the SPON system – a decision-support system for irrigation. A large number of agricultural land users attended the workshop and welcomed the system, as they are aware of the irrigation challenges in the Vipava Valley. Following the workshop, the 6th meeting of project partners took place.
The LIFE ViVaCCAdapt project runs from 1 June 2016 to 30 June 2021 and covers various aspects of adapting agriculture to climate change in the Vipava Valley. The project is co-funded by the LIFE programme and the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning of the Republic of Slovenia.
