COP23 is taking place in Portorož

This week, Portorož is hosting the 23rd session of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention – the Mediterranean Conference COP 23 (Contracting Parties – COP), with more than half of the delegates being high-level representatives from 21 Mediterranean countries.

With this event, Slovenia is also taking over the two-year presidency, under the slogan: “Green transition in the Mediterranean: from decisions to action”. Staff members from the Slovenian Water Institute are participating in the event, with substantive support from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning.

On 7 December 2023, the Slovenian Water Institute, together with its partners, will organise a side event entitled: “Contributing to the Global Biodiversity Framework through the effective implementation of the SAPBIO of the Barcelona Convention: ecological connectivity, migration, species and inclusive management”. The event will take place in the EMERALD 1 hall at the Bernardin Hotel from 13.00 to 15.00. There will also be a round-table discussion entitled: “How to improve management for connectivity to achieve global targets, including in transboundary contexts? The case of the Northern Adriatic”, The case of the Northern Adriatic’, which will address the intersection of science and policy, the barriers to implementing connectivity, and the question of how to overcome these barriers.
