CRP 2023: Development of a system for assessing the costs of implementing measures to protect the marine environment at national level

The Water Research Institute of the Republic of Slovenia was successful in the CRP 2023 call for proposals, published in May 2023 by the Public Agency for Scientific Research and Innovation of the Republic of Slovenia (ARIS).

.

From 1 December 2023 onwards, researchers at the Institute have been carrying out an 18-month project entitled ‘Development of a system for assessing the costs of implementing measures for the protection of the marine environment at national level’. The aim of the project is to draw up a proposed methodology that will integrate the European Commission’s guidelines with water pricing policy and financial policy in the field of the marine environment. This project will combine the experience and expertise of staff at the Water Institute of the Republic of Slovenia in the field of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (56/2008/EC) with their knowledge of water pricing policy at the level of the Republic of Slovenia.

We look forward to the results of this project and believe that our work will contribute to the more effective implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive and, consequently, to the more effective implementation of the programme of measures to achieve or maintain good environmental status, which, in addition to its economic significance, is also of vital importance for the quality of life in society.
