The Slovenian Water Institute, in collaboration with partners from the Interreg IPA ADRION TETHYS4ADRION project, is organising a series of online seminars in June and July 2026 on monitoring macro-litter in rivers, with the aim of encouraging individuals and communities to contribute and fill the data gaps that are currently hindering the effective implementation of measures.
The power of citizen science and research based on the collaboration of communities and individuals lies in the fact that anyone can contribute to the collection of targeted and useful environmental data, which helps to fill important environmental data gaps and supports effective environmental decision-making.
A series of webinars will introduce participants to the basics of monitoring macro-litter in rivers in accordance with the guidelines of the Marine Litter Technical Group (MSFD TGML and CORMON) at regional and EU level, with a focus on the collection of high-quality data on river litter by the public.
The webinars will cover key approaches to monitoring macro-litter on riverbanks and floating macro-litter in rivers, offering practical and methodological knowledge applicable to river systems in the Adriatic-Ionian and Mediterranean regions, as well as more broadly.
Online seminar programme
