An international consortium supporting the European Environment Agency
The European Topic Centre on Inland, Coastal and Marine Waters (ETC/ICM) is an international consortium whose purpose is to support the European Environment Agency (EEA) in providing timely, targeted, relevant and reliable information to experts and the wider public for the development and implementation of sound environmental policy in the European Union and other EEA member countries. The aim is to develop a comprehensive environmental information system to assist the European Commission and EEA member countries in their efforts to improve the environment, sustainable development strategies and the integration of environmental policy with other sectors, such as the economy, social affairs, transport, industry, energy and agriculture.
IZVRS is a member of the consortium at the European Topic Centre on Marine and Inland Waters (ETC ICM), which provides expert support to the European Environment Agency and brings together experts from numerous countries. IZVRS has been a member of the consortium since 2007. IZVRS’s tasks within the marine team mainly comprise conceptual work and the preparation of technical background documents for integrated reports on European seas. Some of the tasks carried out by IZVRS within the framework of ETC/ICM also include those related to marine litter, where we develop indicators for marine litter and contribute to the development of the “eye in earth” application.
